Mr. A F M Sarwar Kamal started his career in 1968 as a lecturer of New Model Degree College, Dhaka. After one year he joined at Duncan Brothers (Pakistan) Ltd. in 1969 as a Junior Covenanted Officer.

In 1972 he worked in Postal Department. Here he worked as Additional Post Master General, Acting Post Master General and Director of that department. Until 1982 he was in this department. On November 1982 he joined Senior Services Pool and was posted as a Deputy Secretary under the Ministry of Information. He was a Deputy Secretary, Cabinet Division from August 1986 to January 1992. For the next one year he was the Joint Secretary of this division. From October 1993 to June 1994 Mr. Kamal acted as a Joint Secretary, Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance. He was the Additional Secretary of ERD and Chairman of BJMC. Then he was the Secretary of Ministry of Industries, Bangladesh govt. And now he is the Secretary of Health & Family Welfare Ministry, Bangladesh govt. For his dynamic performance Mr. A F M Sarwar Kamal held different positions as govt. nominee. From November 1993 to June 1994 he was a Member, Board of Directors, Hotels International Ltd. (Sonargaon Hotel) and SABINCO (Saudi-Bangladesh Agricultural and Industrial Investment Co. Ltd.). In 1994 he was the Chairman, Board of Directors, Gazi Fish Culture Ltd., Tongi, Dhaka and Mita Textiles Ltd., Dhaka. At the same time he was also the Member-Secretary, Bangladesh-IDB Islamic Solidarity Educational Waqf. From July 1991 to June 1994 he was the President, Rayer Bazar Govt. Employees Community and Welfare Centre, Dhaka. in November 2001 he became a Member of Privatization Board.
